Descriptions Huatulco Mexico Ecotourism Destinations
Oaxaca´s nine bays were chosen as to include the coasts in México's socio-economic development, as well as to aid the creation of South Pacific beach destinations.
Their unique characteristics, such as exceptional beauty, and proximity to important cultural and colonial attractions combined with a perfect balance between cultural and natural resources make them ideal for attracting international tourism. Surrounded by the Sierra Madre del Sur jungle, the nine spectacular bays, San Agustin, Chachacual, Cacaluta, Maguey, Organo, Santa Cruz, Chahue, Tangolunda and Conejos, in addition to thirty six beaches, represent a great option for visitors, with excellent tourist facilities and attractions. Huatulco, which means, "Where wood is worshipped", in the Mixteco-Zapoteco language, is a tourism development that has been specifically planned around the conservation of its local wildlife. As a result, it is also considered around the world as an ecological resort. The project of Huatulco's Bays, located (CIP's) at the south of Oaxaca's state, is the last of five centers integrally planned by the National Trust Fund for Tourism Development (FONATUR). Its operation began at the end of 1988. It possesses a coastal band of about 21.9 miles of length and 4.4 miles of width in the interior side of the Sierra Madre del Sur.
Located 176.2 miles away from the capital of the state, Huatulco's Bays possess an international airport with direct flights from Mexico City and connections with other important cities as well as foreign countries. From Mexico´s city, the city of Oaxaca is only 25 minutes away, and Puerto Escondido only 20 minutes away. If you feel like traveling by land, there are other ways to get to Oaxaca. One is by taking the federal road No. 175 Oaxaca - Pochutla 150 miles, and then taking the road No. 200, up to Huatulco for 26.2 miles. Another way is departing from Oaxaca's City to Salina Cruz, by taking the road No. 190 which crosses 166.9 miles and connects with road No. 200 another 106.25 miles to Huatulco
